۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 Thus, the words of Our Lord about us have come true and now we are suffering the torment. 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 There will neither be any harm in it for their body nor will it intoxicate their mind. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 And a speaker from among them will say: verily there was unto me a mate. 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, are we indeed going to be requited? 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
