The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
