The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
