The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the great tidings! 2 About which they differ? 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
