He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
