Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
