The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
