The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
