A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 Verily we are undone. 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
