The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
