Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
