So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship, al-Khidh r tore it open. [Moses] said, "Have you torn it open to drown its people? You have certainly done a grave thing." 71 He answered: "Did I not tell thee that thou canst have no patience with me?" 72 Said Moosa, “Do not apprehend me upon my forgetting, and do not impose difficulty on me in my task.” 73 So they travelled on. Then they met a young boy and the man killed him. Moses said, "Have you slain an innocent person without his having slain anyone? Indeed, you have done a terrible thing!" 74 ۞ [Al-Khidhr] said, "Did I not tell you that with me you would never be able to have patience?" 75 Moses replied, "If I ever ask you about anything after this, do not let me accompany you. I will have given you sufficient excuse." 76 So they departed; until, when they reached the people of a city, they asked the people for food, but they refused to receive them hospitably. There they found a wall about to tumble down, and so he set it up. He said, 'If thou hadst wished, thou couldst have taken a wage for that.' 77 He said, “This is the parting between you and me; I shall now tell you the interpretation of the matters you could not patiently bear.” 78 As for the boat, it belonged to (some) poor men who worked on the river and I wished that I should damage it, and there was behind them a king who seized every boat by force. 79 “And in respect of the boy – his parents were Muslims and we feared that he may incite them to rebellion and disbelief.” 80 So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy. 81 And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father was a righteous man; so your Lord desired that they should attain their maturity and take out their treasure, a mercy from your Lord, and I did not do it of my own accord. This is the significance of that with which you could not have patience. 82
