O thou folded in garments! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
