He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
