The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
