The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
