AND UNTO [the tribe of] Thamud [We sent] their brother salih He said: "O my people! Worship God alone: you have no deity other than Him. Clear evidence of the truth has now come unto you from your Sustainer. "This she-camel belonging to God shall be a token for you: so leave her alone to pasture on God's earth, and do her no harm, lest grievous chastisement befall you. 73 Remember, that He has made you the successor of 'Aad, and lodged you in the land. You have built palaces on its plains and hewed out houses in the mountains. Remember the favor of Allah and do not act mischievously in the earth, corrupting' 74 The chiefs of those who were stiff-necked amongst His people said unto those who were counted weak - unto such of them as believed: know ye that Salih is a sent one of his Lord? They said: verily we are believers in that wherewith he hath been sent. 75 Those who were proud said: 'We disbelieve in that which you believed in' 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel and rebelled against the command of their Lord and said, “O Saleh! Bring upon us what you promise us, if you are a Noble Messenger.” 77 Then they were seized by an earthquake, and lay overturned on the ground in their homes in the morning. 78 Then he turned from them, and said: O my people! Assuredly I delivered unto you the messages of my Lord, and counselled you good, but ye approve not the good counsellors. 79 And (We sent) Lut when he said to his people: What! do you commit an indecency which any one in the world has not done before you? 80 You engage in lustful activities with people instead of women. You have become transgressing people. 81 The only answer given by his people was, "Turn them out of your town. They are people who regard themselves to be pure." 82 But we saved him and his family, except his wife: she was of those who legged behind. 83 And We rained a shower (of stones) upon them; therefore see what sort of fate befell the culprits! 84
