The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
