The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
