A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
