Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
