The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
