The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
