The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
