The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
