The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and then I shall most certainly crucify you, in great numbers, all together!" 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
