The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
