The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 , A fitting reward. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
