Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 labouring, weary, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
