And [recall] when you slew a man and disputed over it, but Allah was to bring out that which you were concealing. 72 We said: 'Strike him with a piece of it' Like this, Allah restores the dead to life and shows you His signs in order that you will understand. 73 Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do. 74 ۞ Do you then hope that they would believe in you, and a party from among them indeed used to hear the Word of Allah, then altered it after they had understood it, and they know (this). 75 When they meet the faithful, they say, "We are believers." But when alone, they say to each other, "Must you tell them what God has revealed to us? They will only use it to argue against you before your Lord! Have you no sense?" 76 Do they not know that Allah has knowledge of all they hide and all that they reveal! 77 And of them are unlettered ones who know not the Book but vain desires; and they do but conjecture. 78 Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say, "This is from Allah," to purchase with it a little price! Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for that they earn thereby. 79 And they say: The Fire (of punishment) will not touch us save for a certain number of days. Say: Have ye received a covenant from Allah - truly Allah will not break His covenant - or tell ye concerning Allah that which ye know not? 80 Nay, but whosoever hath done evil and his sin surroundeth him; such are rightful owners of the Fire; they will abide therein. 81 But those who believe and do good deeds are people of Paradise, and shall live there forever. 82
