The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great event, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 except boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
