At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They said: "Nay, we have brought to you that concerning which they have been in doubt. 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 And We made known to him this decree that the wrongdoers were to be utterly cut off in the morning. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 He said: "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 Verily by your life they were utterly confused in their (lustful) drunkenness. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Herein are really signs for those who discern. 75 it is still there on the highway -- 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
