Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which you are promised. 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him." 38 The messenger said, "My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me." 39 God replied, "After a very short time they will certainly regret for their deeds." 40 Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong! 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 No community can anticipate their term, nor can they lay behind. 43 Thereafter We sent Our apostles, successively. So oft as there came unto a community their apostle, they belied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them bywords; so away with a people who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and to his chiefs, but they behaved superciliously and they were haughty. 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
