Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 A warning to mankind, 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 In Gardens they will question 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
