The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
