The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Save worshippers. 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
