Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
