He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
