۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
