Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions ranged 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
