Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Shocker (Al-Qaare'ah) before The Backbiter (Al-Hummazah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by the Day of Resurrection 1 and nay, I swear by the self-reproaching soul! 2 Thinketh man that We shall not assemble his bones? 3 Yea indeed, We are able to make whole his very finger-tips! 4 Yet man wants to deny what is ahead of him: 5 He questions: "When is the Day of Resurrection?" 6 But [on that Day], when mortal sight is confounded, 7 and the moon is darkened, 8 And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light, etc.) 9 On that Day man will say: "Where (is the refuge) to flee?" 10 But nay: no refuge [for thee, O man]! 11 To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence. 12 Man shall on that day be informed of what he sent before and (what he) put off. 13 Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness, 14 Though he may put forth his excuses (to cover his evil deeds). 15 Do not forestall (the revelation before its completion) by acting in haste. 16 Ours it is to gather it, and to recite it. 17 And so when We recite it, follow its recitation attentively; 18 Then lo! upon Us (resteth) the explanation thereof. 19 Not [as you think, that you (mankind) will not be resurrected and recompensed for your deeds], but (you men) love the present life of this world, 20 and leave be the Hereafter. 21 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 22 Looking to their Lord. 23 and some faces will on that Day be overcast with despair, 24 knowing that a crushing calamity is about to befall them. 25 By no means! When it cometh up to the collar-bone. 26 and people ask, "Is there any wizard [that could save him]?" 27 And he is sure that it is the (hour of) parting 28 And the leg is wound about the leg, 29 That Day the Drive will be (all) to thy Lord! 30
