The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
