The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
