A multitude of those of old 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
