Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 So enter among My servants, 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
