The dwellers of the Thicket belied their Messengers. 176 Shu'aib said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 177 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 178 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 179 my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 180 ۞ Give full measure and do not cheat; 181 "And weigh with the true and straight balance. 182 And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption. 183 And fear He who created you and the former creation." 184 They said: "You are no more than one of those who have been bewitched, 185 and a mere mortal like us. We think you are a liar. 186 Drop down on us lumps from heaven, if you are one of the truthful' 187 He said, "My Lord is most knowing of what you do." 188 Then they belied him; wherefore there laid hold of them the torment of day of shadow. Verily it was the torment of a Mighty Day. 189 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 190 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 191
