The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Except those who pray, 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
