The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). 1 when the stars are thrown down, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 when the savage beasts shall be brought together, 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 the heavens are unveiled, 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 and Paradise is brought near, 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 So, I call the receding stars to witness, 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 with strength endowed, secure with Him who in almightiness is enthroned 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 And (O people) your companion (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is not a madman; 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 And the Qur’an is not the recitation of Satan the outcast. 25 When whither go ye? 26 This is naught but an admonition unto the worlds 27 to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
