Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
