Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 an orphaned relative 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
